Can you visit Hurricane Barows?
You can meet him by booking through TCC's Fureai Joba reservation service. The options are hands-on contact, photography, a led walk and a trot lesson; bookings open one month ahead and close three days before. The club is open 09:00-17:00 (summer hours in the hot season) with no regular closing day, and year-end holidays and irregular closures are posted on its website. There is parking but no shuttle service. Mention that you are a TCC member when you get in touch. Cancellation fees are 100% for a no-show and 50% otherwise, waived when weather or other conditions would put horses and riders at risk. To keep lessons safe and to guard against disease the club does not admit visitors who have not contacted it in advance, and contact is made through the enquiry form on its website rather than by telephone.

Hurricane Barows's racing career
4 wins from 7 starts in JRA racing, with total earnings of 36,400,000 yen. American-bred and trained by Katsuhiko Sumii at Ritto, he debuted at Hanshin on 12 September 2015, finishing second over 1,600m turf behind Air Spinel. He broke his maiden as favourite over 1,800m dirt at Hanshin in June of his three-year-old season, then won a 5-million-yen class race at Kyoto on 5 January 2017 under Mirco Demuro. After a 14-month layoff he took a 5-million-yen class race at Kokura on 3 March 2018 and a 10-million-yen class race at Hanshin on 25 March (Kafuji King second), both under Dario Vargiu. His final three starts were all victories, and he was sent off favourite in five of his seven races.
Hurricane Barows after racing
He came from the same owner and trainer pairing, Koji Inokuma and Katsuhiko Sumii, that won the 2019 Japanese Derby with Roger Barows, and he was the first foreign-bred horse to carry the Barows name. Air Spinel, a foal of the same 2013 crop who now lives at Umanma Park in Ibaraki, beat him on debut, but once he switched to dirt he ran dependably, and he left racing in the spring of his five-year-old season after winning at the 5-million-yen and 10-million-yen class levels. Since June 2019 he has been supported through TCC Japan's Uma Share programme, living at Akita Riding Club on a hillside about five minutes by car from Akita Airport. He never hurries, in the barn or at exercise, and the club calls him Hari-bo.
