Narita Shu's racing career

No wins from two starts with the JRA and no prize money. He ran only twice, both at Kyoto in 2016, before ligament damage in both forelegs forced an early retirement. As a foal he had fetched 37.8 million yen at the 2014 Select Sale.

Narita Shu after racing

By Ruler Ship, out of a mare by Sunday Silence. He fetched 37.8 million yen at the Select Sale, but his racing career ended after two maiden starts as a two-year-old. His racing owner had chosen the name with great feeling and doted on him like a child, and that bond brought him into the TCC fold; after retraining in Okayama he spent about seven years at the Kanazawa Riding Club. On 13 May 2024 he moved to Metasequoia to Uma no Mori in Shiga, where he now takes guests on led walks under saddle and meets visitors. He turned 12 in March 2026, and is loved for the contrast between the noisy gestures he aims at Gold Flag next door in the barn and how well the two get on once they are turned out. His trademarks are the heart-shaped star on his forehead and a deft “may I have a treat?” routine that reliably produces carrots.
