About Boxing IQ Japan
What this site is
Boxing IQ Japan is a database of Japanese-style boxing technique. A working adult who trains at a boxing gym in Japan has organized, one by one, the techniques covered in practice there. Coaching differs by country and by gym, so some of these may be taught differently in American or Mexican boxing. Everything is split into combinations, defense and footwork, and body mechanics, with the notation, steps, key points, common mistakes and how to practice each one.
Editorial policy
- Only techniques actually covered in practice are included. Techniques that haven't been practiced are left out.
- The explanations have been rewritten as general boxing information. Steps, common mistakes and similar parts are filled in from general boxing knowledge, and anything about body parts or injuries has been checked against publicly available information.
- Techniques are ordered with the basic forms first, then by how often they came up in practice.
- Left and right are written for orthodox (left foot forward).
Before you use this site
- The explanations on this site are not a substitute for coaching at a gym. How to throw punches and how to defend can differ from gym to gym and coach to coach. In actual training, follow your coach's instructions first.
- This site cannot take responsibility for injuries or health problems during training. Train within limits that suit how your body feels.
How your marks are saved
Practice log marks are stored only in your browser's storage (localStorage). Nothing is sent to a server and your browsing is not tracked. No external fonts or analytics scripts are loaded either. Clearing your browser's site data also clears the marks.
