Combinations
Left body hook, then right hook
FlowLeft body hook → Right hook
Left body hook, then right hook is a combination where you hit the opponent's stomach with a left body hook and follow to the head with a right hook from the tilted position your body ends up in. An opponent who gets hit to the body drops their guard, and you go over that lowered guard with the right hook. You turn the position you're left in after the left body hook straight into the next punch, so there's no gap.

Left body hook, then right hook: step by step
- At close range, bend your knees and lower your body.
- Throw a left body hook to the opponent's side. At the end of it, your body is tilted on an angle.
- As you straighten up from the tilt, throw a right hook on that same motion. Aim your fist at the side of their face.
- Bring both hands back beside your chin and return to your guard.
Left body hook, then right hook: key points
- Use the tilted position from the left body hook as your setup for the right hook, without resetting. Layer straightening up with the right hook's rotation.
- When you hit the body, the opponent's guard moves down. Send the right hook over that lowered guard to their head.
- Keep your right hand beside your chin while you throw the left body hook.
Left body hook, then right hook: common mistakes
- Resetting to stand straight after the left body hook before throwing the right hook. There's a gap, and the opponent brings their guard back up.
- Letting your right hand leave your chin on the left body hook. The right side of your face opens and you take the opponent's left hook.
- Winding up wide for the right hook. It takes the long way around, and the opponent sees it and avoids it.
Left body hook, then right hook: how to practice
- In shadowboxing, stop once at the end of the left body hook and check the tilted position of your body. From there, throw the right hook with the motion of straightening up. Once you're used to it, run it through without stopping.
- On the heavy bag, land the left body hook at stomach height and the right hook at head height. Check that your stance width doesn't change as you switch heights.
