Right uppercut into left body hook
Flow(light) Right uppercut → Left body hook
The right uppercut into left body hook is a combination where a light right uppercut gets the opponent to raise their guard, and then you hit the opened side hard with the left body hook, the power punch. When they get hit in the face from below, the opponent tightens their arms to protect high, and that is the moment you go low. It's a combination for close range. Don't let your body drift forward on the right uppercut. Sink where you are and link into the left body hook.

Right uppercut into left body hook: step by step
- Drive a compact right uppercut up to the head. You're not throwing it to knock them down, but to get them to raise their guard.
- The moment the opponent's guard goes up, bend your knees and sink.
- In the same flow as you sink, turn your hips and drive the left body hook, the power punch, hard into the opponent's side.
- When you finish, recenter your weight and bring both hands back in front of your face.
Right uppercut into left body hook: key points
- Throw the right uppercut small and fast. If you throw it big, your weight drifts forward and you can't move into the left body hook.
- The left body hook is the one you hit hard. The right uppercut is a setup punch and the left body hook is the power punch, so keep that split in power clear.
- The moment the opponent's guard goes up, sink without a pause. If you sink late, the guard comes down and blocks the path for the left body hook.
Right uppercut into left body hook: common mistakes
- Lunging forward on the right uppercut. Too much weight goes onto your front foot, and you can't use hip rotation for the left body hook.
- Throwing the right uppercut for real. The right comes back late, and in the meantime the opponent lowers their guard.
Right uppercut into left body hook: how to practice
- In shadowboxing, repeat the flow of a light right uppercut, sinking, and a hard left body hook. Check that there's a difference in power between the two punches.
- On the heavy bag, land a light right uppercut at head height and immediately drive the left body hook in at body height. Check that your body doesn't drift forward after the right uppercut.
