Can you visit Desperado?
To guard against livestock disease, the farm has suspended visits by the general public as a rule (notice posted on the farm's official site on 1 April 2026). The one chance to meet him is the farm's once-a-year open day, scheduled for 24 October in 2026, which includes a look at the horse paddocks. Desperado's racing career
9 wins from 34 starts in JRA racing, with career earnings of 323,976,000 yen. He won the Stayers Stakes (GII) in both 2013 and 2014, and also took the 2014 Kyoto Kinen (GII). He won the 2013 Manyo Stakes (Listed), was second in the 2013 Hanshin Daishoten (GII) and third in the 2012 Stayers Stakes. His racing registration was cancelled in December 2014 after inflammation of the superficial flexor tendon in his right foreleg.
Desperado after racing
By Neo Universe, out of a mare by Tony Bin. He became the leading light of Japan's staying division by winning the 3,600-metre Stayers Stakes in both 2013 and 2014, and in between he also landed a middle-distance graded race, the 2014 Kyoto Kinen. After three years at stud he moved in 2019 to a university farm in Kasama, Ibaraki, where at 18 he helps with the practical training of students of veterinary medicine and animal science.
