Expedition's racing career

Six wins from 26 starts with JRA and earnings of 165,294,000 yen. He won the Kokura Kinen (GIII) on 5 August 2012 as the third favourite, ridden by Suguru Hamanaka, with Tosen Ra second. At four in 2011 he won four of his eight starts, taking the Kiyamachi Tokubetsu, the Kyushu Sports Hai and the Fusan Stakes in a row to move up to graded races. In 2013 he was second in both the Naruo Kinen (GIII) and the Niigata Kinen (GIII). All 26 starts came on turf over 1,600 to 2,400 metres, the last being the Niigata Daishoten in May 2014.

Expedition after racing

On 10 July 2010, in a three-year-old maiden at Hanshin, the horse that beat him by three-tenths of a second was Big Week, who would go on to win the Kikuka Sho that autumn. Expedition broke his maiden three weeks later, won three in a row at Kyoto and Kokura in the summer of his four-year-old season to reach graded company, and in the summer of 2012, at five, took the Kokura Kinen ahead of Tosen Ra for a graded title of his own. He is now a merit horse at the Daisen Riding Center in Tottori, where he and Big Week are the only two merit horses on the grounds, standing side by side in the same barn sixteen years after that debut race.
