Nanayo Himawari's racing career

58 starts, 6 wins and ¥159.149 million on the flat in JRA racing, plus 7 starts, 1 win and ¥17.20 million over jumps, for a career total of 65 starts, 7 wins and ¥176.349 million. He won the March Stakes (GIII, 1,800m dirt at Nakayama) on 30 March 2008 as only the seventh choice in the betting, ridden by Yoshiyuki Obara, with Makoto Sparviero second. That first graded win came off the back of a run of form in the 16-million-yen class: second in the Miyabi Stakes in January and winner of the Kitayama Stakes in February. He also won the 2007 Momoyama Tokubetsu (10-million-yen class), was second in the 2007 Maya Stakes, ninth in the 2008 Elm Stakes (Jpn3) and twelfth in the Antares Stakes (GIII) that year. He switched to jumps in the autumn of 2009 and took a maiden hurdle over 2,930m at Kyoto on 30 January 2010 as the favourite; his final start came in an open jump race at Hanshin on 26 December 2010, and his registration was cancelled on 8 January 2011.

Nanayo Himawari after racing

By Air Jihad out of Nanayo Wing. He debuted on turf at Kokura in the summer of his two-year-old season and went eight starts without a win, finally breaking through over 1,400m of dirt at Kyoto the following January — a late developer in every sense. Everything came together at seven: after three straight placings over 1,800m of dirt through the winter and spring of 2008, he was only the seventh choice in the betting for his first graded attempt and came from off the pace to win the March Stakes. At eight he switched to jumps and added a win there, running his last race at the end of his nine-year-old year. He became a riding horse at the Ube Riding Club in Ube, Yamaguchi, later moving to Horse Park Ozuki in Shimonoseki, and since 2025 has been supported under the meritorious-horse programme. The visitor-centre page for the club lists him as its only resident horse. He turned 25 this year.
