A riding club on the highlands by the Kirishima hot springs, where you may look round freely without calling ahead (call in at the office first when you arrive). Viewing is from 09:00 to 17:00 (until 16:00 from November to March; in August there is a break from 12:00 to 14:00). Closed on Mondays - the next weekday if the Monday is a public holiday - and over the New Year period from 28 December to 3 January. You watch from the windows on the outside of the stable block and may not go inside. Groups should contact the club in advance. Red Kingdom, another Nakayama Daishogai winner, is kept at the same club.

Nihonpiro Baron's racing career

49 starts and 10 wins in JRA racing, with career earnings of 273.973 million yen. On the flat he managed only 3 wins from 37 starts, so in November 2015, at five, he was switched to jumping and won 7 of his 12 starts over fences. In 2016 he put together five straight wins from the Nakayama Shinshun Jump Stakes to the Hanshin Jump Stakes, taking the Kyoto High Jump (J-GII) and the Hanshin Jump Stakes (J-GIII). After finishing second in the Kyoto Jump Stakes that November he spent sixteen months off with tendonitis, and on his return he won the Nakayama Daishogai (J-GI) in December 2018 by a nose from Taisei Dream. His last race was a sixth in the Nakayama Grand Jump in April 2019; tendonitis in his left foreleg ended his career and he was removed from the racing register on the 19th of that month.

Nihonpiro Baron after racing

He won only three of his thirty-seven races on the flat, but once he was sent jumping in the autumn of his five-year-old season the wins came in a run, and by the following spring the Kyoto High Jump had made him the leading horse over fences. Sixteen months were lost to tendonitis; then, at the end of his eight-year-old season, he took the Nakayama Daishogai by a nose - at Nakayama, in December, by a nose, exactly as his sire Fusaichi Richard had won his only GI. He now lives at a riding club on the highlands above the Kirishima hot springs in Kagoshima, sharing it with Red Kingdom, another Nakayama Daishogai winner, and his keeper describes him at sixteen as an easy horse who is not frightened of people.
