Red Kingdom's racing career
31 starts and 7 wins in all, counting both JRA racing and a spell at Iwate. He debuted at Kyoto in 2012 but could not win on the flat; after two victories at Iwate he returned to the JRA and switched to jump racing in the spring of 2014. He broke his maiden over fences at Kokura that August, then took the Illumination Jump Stakes in December and followed up in the Nakayama Daishogai (J-GI) to reach the top of Japanese jump racing. He added the Pegasus Jump Stakes in March 2015 and, after finishing seventh as favourite in the Nakayama Grand Jump, was retired that May with a strained left fore tendon.
Red Kingdom after racing
A son of Deep Impact who could not win on the flat, went to the regional circuit to find his feet, and turned to jump racing in the spring of his five-year-old season — a late bloomer. Four months after taking up jumping he won his first race over fences, and by the end of that year he had already taken the Nakayama Daishogai, carried to the very top by the quality of his jumping. Since retiring he has lived at a riding club on the highlands of the Kirishima hot-spring district in Kagoshima, where his keepers say the mischief of his younger days has given way to a calm temperament.
