Right uppercut into left hook

FlowRight uppercut → Left hook
Right uppercut, left hook is a combination where you drive a right uppercut up the middle of the opponent's front to make them close their guard, then land a short left hook from the outside. It's built on showing the inside and hitting the outside: the instant their guard pulls to the center, the side opens. Use it when you're up close.

Right uppercut into left hook: step by step
- Drive a short right uppercut up the middle of the opponent's front.
- As you bring your right fist back, watch their guard close toward the center.
- Turn your shoulder in and get ready to rotate your body.
- Throw a short left hook and land it on the side of the opponent's jaw.
- Bring your left fist back beside your chin and return to your guard.
Right uppercut into left hook: key points
- Use the right uppercut as a shot to make the opponent close their guard. Make them protect the center and the side of the face opens.
- Don't swing the left hook wide. Keep it short at close range, and throw it with your shoulder turned in and your body's rotation.
- Use the right uppercut coming back as the start of the left hook's rotation. Don't throw the two separately. Make them one flow.
Right uppercut into left hook: common mistakes
- Swinging the right uppercut up wide. Your elbow flares, it's slow to come back, and the left hook doesn't connect.
- Swinging the left hook as big as you would at long range. It takes the long way around and doesn't land before their guard comes back.
- Not bringing your right hand back after the right uppercut. You throw the left hook with the right side of your face still open.
Right uppercut into left hook: how to practice
- In shadowboxing, use a mirror to check that your hip and shoulder rotation connects from the right uppercut coming back into the left hook. Repeat.
- On the heavy bag, stand at close range and land the right uppercut from below on the front and a short left hook on the side.
