Raizan's racing career
One win from 21 starts with the JRA plus one run overseas, 22 starts and one win in all, with earnings of 12.05 million yen. He broke his maiden in a two-year-old maiden race at Hanshin on 21 September 2013, then finished eleventh in the Daily Hai Nisai Stakes (GII) and fourth in the Junior Cup (open) in January 2014. In October that year he travelled to Caulfield in Australia for the Moonga Stakes (GIII) and came ninth. His last race was the Inuyama Tokubetsu at Chukyo on 11 December 2016, after which he was retired from racing sound in body and mind.
Raizan after racing
By Neo Universe, his dam Rising Cross bred in Britain. He fetched 63 million yen at the 2012 Select Sale and travelled as far as Caulfield in Australia in the autumn of his three-year-old season — a striking dark bay. He was already jumping a metre in his racing days, such was his aptitude for riding; after surgery at Kagoshima University to geld an undescended testicle he moved to the Equivilla riding club in Toki, Gifu, and when the club ran into difficulties in July 2020 he was moved temporarily to TCC Therapy Park in Ritto, Shiga, before settling the following month at the Aichi Bokujo Riding Club. A ten-minute walk from the nearest station, and the bustle of a tourist farm with other animals and flower fields, add to his popularity, and in the winter of 2025 supporters funded a new rug for him. He turned 15 on 10 February 2026, and his outstanding aptitude keeps winning over everyone who comes for a lesson.
