Lucky Hunter's racing career
Winless in 13 JRA starts and 2 wins from 22 starts at Oi in regional racing, for a domestic record of 2 wins from 35 starts and total earnings of 4,984,000 yen. He debuted on 28 July 2013 over 1,800m on turf at Hakodate under Yuji Hishida, and his best JRA finish was fourth in a maiden over 1,600m on turf at Kyoto on 6 October that year. Moving to Oi in November 2014, he won his first start there, a three-year-old race, under Takumi Kobayashi for a first career win at the 14th attempt. He added a second win in an Oi C2 race on 25 June 2015 under Taito Mori, and was deregistered after a run on 8 April 2016. He never started in a graded race.
Lucky Hunter after racing
A chestnut son of Heart's Cry, he ran 13 times for a Ritto stable without winning, then took his first start at Oi in the autumn of his four-year-old season for a first career win at the 14th attempt. After retiring he was retrained as a riding horse at Kibi Kogen Sarabri Training in Okayama, graduating in May 2017, and when the TCC Therapy Park opened in Ritto in May 2019 he returned to the town where he had been in training and became a therapy horse for local children with disabilities. He is known for standing quietly through shoeing even with children around him, and for stretching his neck and nose out as far as they will go when he wants a treat.
